Nicola and Mark’s special day
It’s true what they say… a photograph speaks a thousand words. Capturing some of life’s most unforgettable moments, a single photograph tells the story of our lives in the most natural, emotional and fascinating way. And as a wedding photographer, it’s my job to capture every poignant moment in the most special way!
And if you are looking for high quality Apex Grassmarket wedding photography, you have certainly landed in the right place. Every wedding I work on is different and this is one of the main reasons I love what I do. Over the years, I’ve been afforded the opportunity to capture a whole host of different weddings, at some amazing venues.

And my latest project took me to Edinburgh where I had the pleasure of capturing Nicola and Mark’s big day. Set at the Apex Grassmarket hotel – a dreamy wedding venue that offers spectacular views of Edinburgh Castle. This hotel really did provide me with the perfect opportunity to get some stunning photographs. It also helped that the weather was glorious too which is unusual for Scotland!
Romantic, lavish and simply breath taking, the venue was stunning throughout and offered fantastic views of the Old Town. The interiors also made for the ultimate backdrop to such a special day.
The Big Day
I was hired last minute to shoot Nicola and Mark’s wedding as they had been let down by their original photographer. I’m usually booked up 10 months in advance however, the couple who originally had booked these dates had cancelled. The bride and groom looked incredible and I captured some truly stunning images throughout the day including the preparations that started early morning. Here I was able to photograph some wonderful images of the bride, maid of honour, mother of the bride and daughter of the bride.
This is one of my favourite parts of any wedding, as it’s often at this point that I capture the most emotionally driven images as the bride spends her last few hours as a miss. When I was capturing the preparations, my second shooter was capturing all of the guests arriving. Again, some fantastic shots were taken as family and friends gathered to celebrate such a special occasion. As a Apex Grassmarket wedding photographer, I really do get to work at some amazing locations.
The ceremony took place in an intimate private event space on the top floor of the hotel. Although this was a romantic and intimate space, it was still incredibly spacious and the room had massive glass windows, which certainly optimised the light and space of the room. Of course, the décor also added a spectacular backdrop to the occasion as the happy couple tied the knot.
But it was the views out to Edinburgh Castle that really added a stunning dimension to the setting, especially when the bride’s mother walked her down the aisle. This is a great time to capture the reactions of the couple’s nearest and dearest.
After the ceremony
After the ceremony, we took the couple off to do a short bridal shoot to nearby Flodden Wall. This is always a great opportunity to capture some special shots. We also used the top floor function space, which also had a lovely outdoor terrace, which again, provided breath-taking views of the castle. We then retired to the hotel lobby in order get the all important formal portraits of family and friends, as well as a group shot from the balcony above the lobby.
Family and friends then gathered in the function room to celebrate and tuck into a delicious wedding breakfast before the speeches. The bride’s brother spoke on behalf of her father, then the groom and best man also made their formal speeches, which were certainly a hit with the crowd. Next, it was the cutting of the cake and the first dance, which again, allowed us to capture some very special moments.
